We do not do “lessons”. Our mission is to utilize baseball to help young men develop on and off the field. Our students consistently improve as hitters drastically and their parents see them learning valuable life lessons. Damage Hitter Shield is a year-round program with current participants having first right of refusal to their position within the program and they renew yearly. 

The application process is for 3 reasons.

1. It is important we are a fit for your family and you are a fit for ours. Karl is a good teacher, coach and mentor who teaches many core baseball and life-skills concepts together. If you or your child is not ready for a large amount of information, accountability and to be pushed toward your potential we are not a fit. The first reasons for this website and the application process is to make certain you realize Damage Hitter Shield is serious and for us to decide if we are a fit for each other.
2. Karl has been a successful hitting coach for nearly 3 decades. Over the years he has created a large following keeping his calendar and programs full. The best way for Damage Hitter Shield to remain organized is through this application process. This process allows Karl to remain focused on his current hitters while maintaining structure for the next season. Once you become a Damage Hitter you will gain a greater appreciation for the application process.
3. The organization of the application allows the program to seamlessly move to the next hitter in line when openings become available in the program. Every year someone sneaks in off the waiting list because they applied and another hitter had an unforeseen circumstance. While at the same time many never have the opportunity to get involved because they fail to apply thinking its to long to wait.

This program is built on the development of high school, college and professional players. We have been very successful taking that knowledge and much of the approach used at those levels to younger players. Our most successful players are the players that have been with us since the age of 9 or younger, however we do not take many that age. We have 7, 8 and 9 year olds under special circumstances.

The breakdown of our clientele is:

• 60% High School Players
• 30% Middle School
• 10% Grade School

Short answer: Yes!

Long answer: Since 2022 our program has been 99.9% young men. In the 90’s through about 2017 it was common to see girls hitting in our facility and they were among our best hitters. During those times girls were as much as 35% of our program. With the rise of softball academies more of the ladies have found themselves hitting at their academy with the academy staff.

It is the opinion of Karl that Mike Condrea is the greatest fast pitch hitting coach of all time and he had an extensive background in baseball before leading the University of Arizona Softball program to national recognition. Hitting kinetics are basically the same for baseball and softball.

Yes! Karl Carswell is a Professional Hitting Consultant with nearly 3 decades of experience coaching hitters and 2 decades of scouting amateur players. He’s helped nearly 2000 families earn college scholarship opportunities and has not kept track of the number of pro players he has coached and developed.

Karl also believes in value. Karl brings a priceless value by consistently correlating baseball principles with life principles. If this is important to you as a parent you will find it refreshing and encouraging. 

This value spills over to the facilities, equipment, atmosphere and services provided at Damage Hitter Studios, in the Damage Hitter Shield Program and anything else Karl may suggest you use or try. 

It is important hitters do what’s best for them. It’s our belief that players need to learn how to absorb information and use it or discard it as needed for their development as a player. Our hitters need to hit and hit often to reach their potential. Its our hope that during their daily hitting they encounter someone who can and will bring more to their hitting and add to their development.

We are also aware there are many qualified coaches and we respect the game enough to encourage players to seek outside counsel. Our confidence in the subject matter makes us open to discussion with anyone with a passion to help our hitters individual needs. Our phone is always open.

Anyone not open to allowing hitters to seek what they feel is best for them in the area of growth and development does not have the hitter or the hitters family’s best interest at heart.

Competition is a great thing and the backbone of America. HOWEVER, there are no outside factors that can compete with Karl Carswell, Damage Hitter Studios, Damage Hitter Shield or any other businesses he is associated with.

There is no baseball academy, coach or business regardless of size that has the wherewithal in any capacity to compete. 

We are driven every day to be the best version of us we can be and it is impossible for another person or entity to enter the playing field and compete with us to be us. As long as our focus remains on being the best version of us we can be there will never be any competition.

Karl Carswell is arrogant, brash, demanding, and direct. Intense is another way to describe the way he goes about his life.

He is also caring, considerate, loving, patient, thoughtful, devoted, loyal and compassionate. Karl meets people where they are and believes the ability to grow and develop from every situation in life is born from our individual ability to grow and develop our mental and emotional agility.
